At yesterday’s noonday Alpine Super G Race at Park City’s Payday Hi–Speed Six–Pack run at the Mountain Resort, Amanda Goyne helped the USA Women’s Ski Team win their second gold medal. Austin Nelson on the USA Men’s Ski Team tied for the Bronze medal.
Goyne posted a time of 1:02.76 handily defeating the heavily favored Czech runner up, Petra Kurkova who finished second with a time of 1:03.35. Kurkova’s Czech teammate, Tereza Kmochova posted a time of 1:04.31, good enough to earn her the bronze.
Germany’s Matthias Becherer won his second gold medal in as many days. Becherer posted a supersonic time of 1:00.42, almost a full second ahead of the second place finisher. Switzerland’s Roland Schneider placed second with a time of 1:01.41. The Bronze went to two skiers, one from Austria and the other from USA who posted identical times of 1:01.80, Phillipp Perchtold and Austin Nelson. Nelson’s bronze medal was the first skiing medal the USA Men’s Ski Team had won in 12 years, dating back to the 1995 Deaflympic games in Yllas, Finland.
